Asia Centre’s economics breakfasts. Michel De Grandi (an Échos correspondent in Japan) The new Japanese government of Yukio Hatoyama has made the creation of an East Asian Community one of the axes of its regional strategy. Based on the European model, the project, which rests on China and Japan, raises numerous questions. What interest do these nations have in promoting such a structure, who will profit, what will be its boundaries? That is against a background of persistent rivalry between the two economic giants, whose cumulative economic weight corresponds to roughly 1/6th of global GDP.
The discussion will be introduced and moderated by Jean-François Di Meglio, President of Asia Centre.
Admission is by invitation only and there is an attendance fee, with exceptions for patron organizations, sponsors, members of the administration.
